This specific piece was made with the purpose to explore self-identity and to show to others who we truly are. Self-portraits often show the viewer who the artist is inside and out. The collage aspect of this project was supposed to bring that idea forward and present in the project. Many different aspects went into this piece: finding different skin tones to create shading, finding the right pieces to fit together to make the piece work. I wanted to keep it abstract because that is how I view my personality in terms of being random and sometimes it doesn’t make sense. I believe that self-portraits are windows into the soul and that they can both change people’s perceptions of you and how you view others. By letting self-portraits be an image of you, you are letting others view what is inside, whether it is obvious in the artwork itself or not. It can change other’s perspective of you because you are letting them see a part of you that you probably never have shown before. It can also change your opinion of others for the same reason.
